Dá chineadh dá gcumthar dán / Two Races for Whom Poetry is Made
The Normans and the Gaels in the Collections of the Royal Irish Academy

The Royal Irish Academy Library presents a special exhibition marking the Year of the Normans.

Exploring themes of conflict, exchange and cultural integration, the exhibition tells the story of Norman influence in Gaelic Ireland. Drawing on the Academy’s rich collections, it showcases a selection of remarkable items that illustrate how Norman settlement shapes Gaelic society and literature. From the Grail legend in Irish tradition to the flourishing of bardic poetry, the displays reveal the depth and complexity of this shared history.

The Royal Irish Academy Library is a leading research centre for the study of Irish history, language, archaeology and the history of science in Ireland. It holds the world’s largest collection of Irish-language manuscripts, alongside significant printed and archival collections.
