The region is leading the initiative

The year 2027 marks the thousandth anniversary of the birth of William the Conqueror in Falaise, Normandy. The Normandy Region is celebrating this historic anniversary by organizing MILLENIUM, a major public, cultural, and tourism event.

This event will unfold not only across Normandy but also in European territories that share a common history and heritage with the region, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Channel Islands, Flanders, Norway, Denmark, and the six regions of Southern Italy (Apulia, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, and Sicily).

Since 2022, the Region has been engaging with these territories to initiate an important process of co‑creation with cultural, academic, tourism, and political institutions from several countries.

The ambition is to make 2027 not only a year of celebrations but also the starting point for lasting cooperation between Normandy and the territories that share its history.

What we want is to use this anniversary year as an opportunity to build, together with our partners, an event that resonates not only in Normandy but across all of Europe.
Hervé Morin, President of the Normandy region

Hundreds of events — many of them designed in partnership with participating countries — will animate Normandy: theatre, dance, concerts, exhibitions, conferences, heritage trails, gastronomic gatherings, sports or tourism events…

But not only in Normandy. Beyond the region, Anglo‑Norman, British, Italian, Danish, Norwegian, and Irish partners will also host major events in their own territories, creating a coherent programme that spans from the historical to the contemporary, with numerous collaborations between European institutions.

These exchanges and collaborations are more than events: they express a vibrant Europe, rich in shared history and oriented toward the future. Normandy and its European partners invite you to discover a resolutely European programme that celebrates diversity and creativity.

MILLENIUM lays the foundation for a genuine European cultural network, with a view to applying for Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme certification in 2028.
