Strongbow’s Irish Legacy: Anglo-Norman Traces

A One-Day Conference

This one-day conference explores the historical and cultural impact of the Normans in Ireland, beginning with the arrival of the Anglo-Welsh-Normans in the late 12th century. It focuses on Richard de Clare, known as Strongbow, a key figure in Irish, British and European history, and examines his lasting presence in Ireland.

The programme highlights the long legacy of the Norman conquest as reflected in the art, literature and cultural monuments of Dublin. Organised by Christ Church Cathedral and the Friends of Medieval Dublin, the conference takes place within the cathedral, a major site of the Anglo-Norman settlement and home to Strongbow’s tomb and burial.
