1066 – The Prequel
Norman Pre-history in South-East England

This audio-visual presentation explores Norman influence in South-East England from 1036, focusing on the Manor of Rameslie, which stretches from Rye to Hastings and inland. For 30 years before the Norman Conquest, this area was governed by the Norman Abbey of Fécamp, offering a unique perspective on the events leading up to 1066.

Did this influence William's invasion landing plans. Was there collaboration with William's forces, does this explain why nearby towns outside the Manor of Rameslie were decimated by William's forces in retaliation for their resistance and this area was left unscathed. Where can we see those early Norman influences today ?

The experience is presented through an automated audio-visual display, set against the backdrop of the famous Rye Town Model.
