The Social, Economic, and Political Relations in Northwest Europe from the Neolithic to William the Conqueror

“5,000 Years at the Edge of the English Channel” takes the form of a large international conference organized in Bayeux from June 17 to 19, 2027, at the Auditorium.

Over three days of free lectures, this event offers a journey through five millennia of history and highlights the cultural, economic, and political relationships that have developed between the two shores of the English Channel, from the Neolithic to the time of William the Conqueror.

Supported by a scientific committee composed of leading researchers and institutions, including Inrap, the University of York, the Discovery Programme, the University of Caen-CRAHAM, and LandArc, the project combines scientific rigor with a desire to share knowledge.

Through the most recent discoveries, the lectures explore human mobilities, cultural exchanges, and the multiple forms of interdependence that have shaped maritime societies over the centuries. Accessible to all, this meeting provides original keys to understanding a shared history that has connected, for thousands of years, the territories bordering the English Channel.
