Queen Mathilde in the Spotlight

The Ball of Queens is a participatory choreographic creation led by choreographer Camille Dewaele, designed to be presented both indoors and in public spaces. Inspired by the figure of Queen Mathilde, this work explores the states of the female body — between power, commitment, strength, and gentleness — resonating with contemporary journeys.

The creation unfolds through a succession of musical and choreographic tableaux that bring forth the richness and diversity of female experiences. At the heart of the process, transmission workshops gather women from all backgrounds. Their stories, their presences, and their energies directly nourish the choreographic writing, in an approach that is both sensitive, collective, and engaged, intertwined with feminist issues.

Grounded in the communities, the Ball of Queens involves participant accomplices at every stage of the creation. Some tableaux may draw inspiration from local traditions, strengthening the bonds between artists and residents. Dance thus becomes a space for meeting, sharing, and expression, affirming a collective power in motion.

A ball led by women, to dance and share together, in an open and inclusive momentum.
