Occupation, resistance, and deliverance: the fate of the medieval city

The streets of Bayeux hold the memory of a tumultuous past.

While the city is often associated with the summer of 1944, its history is also marked by another struggle for freedom, experienced five centuries earlier during the Hundred Years' War.

This exploration through the alleys of old Bayeux invites a journey back in time to an era when Normandy found itself at the heart of the rivalry between the crowns of France and England. Amidst royal ambitions, confrontations, alliances, and treaties, the city goes through one of the richest and most significant periods in its history.

From the fate of the sovereigns to the daily life of the inhabitants, this tour allows for a better understanding of the upheavals that shaped Bayeux and its territory in the Middle Ages.
