The Chapter House Ruins

Past and Future

An information panel stands close to the Chapter House ruins within the cathedral grounds, explaining their history and ongoing conservation plans. It highlights their significance as a rare survival of the Anglo-Norman cityscape.

These sunken ruins are the remains of the Chapter House of the Augustinian Canons, who are present at the cathedral from 1163 to 1537. They represent the last surviving element of the monastic cloister complex that once stands adjacent to the cathedral.
