In the Footsteps of William 1027 - 2027

This project aims to symbolically reconstruct the route of the Mora, the emblematic ship of William the Conqueror, between Barfleur and Pevensey in England, in order to enhance the history and maritime heritage of Normandy.

The crossing is made by the DREKNOR, a faithful replica of a Viking ship from Gokstad, certified as a “Vessel of Heritage Interest.” With stops in Normandy and England, the route allows the public to discover the ship at the dock and participate in activities instead of boarding for the crossing.

At each stop, the boat serves as a living educational tool, accessible to all. Guided tours, cultural mediation, and exchanges with the crew allow exploration of maritime know-how from the early Middle Ages, the history of the conquest of England, and the central role of the sea in European exchanges.

Cultural, heritage-oriented, and cross-Channel, this project contributes to reinforcing the sense of a shared heritage between the two shores of the English Channel.

NOTE: The schedule of stops at various ports may evolve depending on current weather conditions, in order to ensure safe navigation for the boat and the crew.
