Domesday – Impact and Legacy

What does Domesday reveal about the impact of the Norman Conquest

This workshop to schools for Key Stages 3 and 4 (11- to 16-year-olds) will investigate the immediate impact of the Norman Conquest on England and what the longer-term legacy was as shown by the information contained in Domesday, the great survey undertaken in 1086 at the command of William the Conqueror.

Students use the new Digital Domesday resource and related original documents, to investigate how and to what extent life in England changed following the conquest, examining its impact across different regions and on various groups, including women and religious communities.
