Ferns Castle Living History Weekend
An Authentic Living History and Medieval Combat Event
Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and spirit of medieval Ireland at the spectacular Ferns Castle Medieval Re-enactment Weekend, proudly hosted in partnership with Déise Medieval.
This iconic Norman castle, built around 1200 by William Marshal and steeped in the history of Leinster’s ancient kings, becomes a living portal to the past. Explore the dramatic ruins, climb the towers for breath-taking views, and experience the castle as it once was — alive with knights, crafts, combat, and camaraderie.
What to Expect
Authentic Living History Camps: Watch (and interact with) Déise Medieval’s skilled reenactors as they recreate Viking and medieval life — from encampments and daily crafts to period clothing, tools, and cooking.
Thrilling Combat Demonstrations: Witness fierce battles, sword fights, champion bouts, and tactical displays that bring medieval warfare to life.
Family-Friendly Activities: Hands-on experiences for all ages, including crafts, storytelling, interactive tours, and plenty of fun for children.
Guided Insights: Learn about Ferns’ rich heritage as the ancient capital of Leinster, from St. Aidan’s monastic roots to the arrival of the Normans and the power struggles that shaped Ireland.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a family looking for an unforgettable day out, or simply curious about Ireland’s medieval past, this weekend promises excitement, education, and atmosphere like no other.
Organised by Ferns Castle OPW in association with Déise Medieval — a passionate Waterford-based group dedicated to authentic living history and medieval combat
