Genêts, port and barony of the powerful abbots of Mont Saint-Michel.
22 July 2027
The largest port of the Bay in the Middle Ages
A visit to discover the most important convergence point for pilgrims wanting to reach Mont Saint-Michel. A time to rest before facing the deadly bay, the only way to complete their spiritual journey.
But Genêts was not just a welcoming place for pilgrims: a commercial port, fishing activities, and shipyards created a strong economy in service of the Counts of Avranches and the Dukes of Normandy.
The English understood this, setting up their base there to supply the Tombelaine Islet and besiege the famous sanctuary.
A pleasant stroll through the alleyways, along the edges of the salt meadows, and the discovery of the remarkable small church.
A guided walk offered by Myriam Bierjon-Gerbaud
