The Hastings Regatta

In the Footsteps of William the Conqueror

This sailing maritime event follows in the wake of William the Conqueror. Young Normans symbolically follow the route of the Mora and its flotilla towards England.

After the Challenge La Mora organized in the Seine Bay, high school students and university students from Normandy participate in a regatta connecting the two shores of the English Channel and meet young English crews. This sporting and cultural adventure highlights the historical links between Normandy and England through sailing.

Pre-program:

- Tuesday, May 11: welcome to the crews, allocation of monotypes, preparation of equipment, setup, and festive opening evening. Accommodation in gymnasiums in the city center or on board habitable sailboats.

- Wednesday, May 12: Trophée La Mora, organized by UNSS in partnership with one or more nautical clubs. Course in the Seine Bay, return to Deauville or Honfleur, prize distribution, allocation of crews on board habitable sailboats, then departure of the flotilla towards Cowes in the evening.

- Thursday, May 13: arrival in Cowes in the early afternoon, visits, activities, and a friendly evening organized with local partners.

- Friday, May 14: Challenge William the Conqueror, friendly regatta bringing together young French crews and, if possible, English ones. Prize distribution, exchange time between participants, then departure of the flotilla towards Honfleur in the evening.

- Saturday, May 15: arrival in Honfleur late morning or early afternoon, depending on weather conditions, followed by a rest period.

- Sunday, May 16: visit to the Village of the Sea and participation of young crews in the sea blessing as part of the Seafarers' Festival.

Through this crossing, the event combines sports practice, maritime discovery, international meetings, and the promotion of the shared heritage between Normandy and England.
