Johnstown Castle – 2027 Year of the Normans Event

Johnstown Castle Estate marks 2027, the Year of the Normans with a special event celebrating its Norman heritage.

The first owners of Johnstown Castle are the Esmondes, a Norman family who settle in the region in the 1170s. The Irish branch of the family traces its origins to Geoffrey de Estmont of Lincolnshire, one of the thirty Norman knights who accompany Robert Fitzstephen during the landing at Bannow, County Wexford, in 1169.

The event brings the estate to life with a vibrant Norman atmosphere. Visitors experience dramatic pageantry, live reenactments, interactive workshops, historical displays, and themed food stalls, all designed to engage audiences of all ages.
