Lihou Concert - A Narrow Sea
10 October 2027
Traditional songs and music from the shores of the English Channel
After enchanting the audience with their interpretation of the traditional repertoires of the Anglo-Norman islands, the group Lihou presents its new creation!
This concert widens the horizon to the whole area of the Channel, also called the Narrow Sea by our British friends. While we cannot trace back to the music of the Normans from the 11th century, we have valuable sources from the 15th century to the present day to engage in dialogue between the songs and music from both shores of the Channel. Reflecting the relationship between the Normans and the British people, the repertoires are both close and distinct. They tell us of rivalries as well as proximities in this long relationship over time.
The musicians of the Lihou group play, enjoy themselves, and ultimately invite discovery and a better understanding of our respective cultures.
With James Dumbelton (vocals, mandolin, violin), Chloë Richard-Desoubeaux (vocals, baroque violin, flute, percussion), and Etienne Lagrange (vocals, violin, hurdy-gurdy).
This concert is produced by the association La Loure - Music and oral traditions in Normandy.
