The Medieval Town of Flemingstown
Life in a Hiberno-Norman Settlement

This living history event brings the medieval settlement of Flemingstown to life in the parklands of Kilkenny Castle. Founded in the early 13th century by William Marshal, the remarkably well-preserved remains of this Hiberno-Norman town lie beneath the grounds, offering a unique window into the past.

A temporary reconstruction of the settlement recreates daily life in medieval Ireland, with a lively programme including craft demonstrations, market stalls, children’s activities, music, games, armour and weapons displays, and knightly reenactments.

Experts also share insights into the recent archaeological discoveries, revealing the hidden history of the deserted town beneath visitors’ feet.
