Norman Fire Festival
from 14 August 2027
to 15 August 2027
Norman Fire Festival
Step back in time and immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and spirit of the medieval world at the Norman Fire Festival set against the historic backdrop of Enniscorthy Castle.
Taking place over two days in August 2027, the festival explores aspects of Norman life through historical interpretation, demonstrations, and participatory activities, within the setting of the castle grounds.
The festival invites visitors of all ages to experience how our Norman ancestors once lived, worked, and celebrated. Visitors are welcomed to experience daily life in a Norman encampment, brought vividly to life by skilled historical re-enactors, craftspeople, and performers.
The program includes workshops and demonstrations, such as shield-making and shield-painting sessions, as well as presentations of weapons and combat techniques. Food and craft displays also introduce materials, skills, and traditions associated with the period.
A key element of the festival is the Norman Fire Parade through Enniscorthy town. At dusk, participants carry lit torches in a collective procession, reflecting on movement, community, and historical memory linked to the Norman presence.
