The Norman epic from the 11th century to the present day

The Europe Inter Exchanges association
organizes a significant event focused on Norman history, bringing together the general public and students from schools in 13 municipalities on the eastern plateau of Rouen, from CM1 to high school (Bonsecours, Le Mesnil Esnard, Franqueville Saint Pierre, Ymare, Quévreville la Poterie, Gouy, Les Authieux sur le Port Saint Ouen, La Neuville Chant d’Oisel, Mesnil Raoul, Fresne le Plan, Montmain, Boos, Belbeuf).

The event is also part of a European and international dynamic, with the presence of delegations from twin cities: Bedizzole in Italy, the Kreis of Uelzen in Germany, Luboń and Gostyń in Poland, Guibaré in Burkina Faso, and a particularly significant Irish delegation from Granard.

Creation of a stained glass window

A monumental stained glass window measuring 1.80 m by 60 cm is created by a local association of amateur glaziers. This emblematic work of the event visually marks the occasion and serves as its symbol. At the end of the program, the stained glass window will be gifted to the Irish delegation.

Exhibition – from Wednesday, June 16 to Sunday, June 20, 2027

Open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the exhibition "The Normans through the Ages" offers an immersive journey inspired by the narrative style of the Bayeux Tapestry. Presented on thick paper or plasticized canvas, it traces the rise of the Norman people through six themes, from their duchy of origin to the borders of the Middle East.
Mini-films illustrate each of the themes addressed. The exhibition also features a docu-fiction produced by the twin city of Granard in Ireland. This film recounts the arrival of the knight Richard de Tuite, originally from Thuit in Eure, in Ireland, where he established a motte-and-bailey castle and founded a Cistercian abbey.
The exhibition content is developed collectively:
– students from the European second year at the local high school, guided by their history and English teachers, are responsible for two themes and the translations into English;
– volunteers from the association, passionate about history, contribute to research and mediation;
– the municipality of Granard, in County Longford, Ireland, will create the docu-fiction during the year 2026.
