The Normans in Ireland: Conquest, Culture & Legacy
Ferns Symposium 2027

Held in historic Ferns, a major medieval site and former royal seat of Dermot MacMurrough, this two-day symposium takes place as part of the 2027 European Year of the Normans – People of Europe. Once a Gaelic capital and later a key Norman stronghold, Ferns provides a unique setting to explore this shared history.

Organised by Ferns Castle (OPW) in partnership with the Wexford Normandy Cultural Association, the symposium examines the impact of the Norman invasion of 1169 and highlights the lasting legacy of Norman heritage in Ireland.

• Dr Jesse Harrington (Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies)
