Our Dear Neighbors

On the occasion of its 10th anniversary and the European Year of the Normans, the Tulipe Mobile collective is participating in the bicentennial of photography with a Franco-British program that includes exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and mediation actions led by English and Norman photographers.

Since 2021, under the title “Our Dear Neighbors,” Tulipe Mobile has been developing collaboration with British photographers, initiated in connection with the Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool, an organization committed to shared creation and projects with the local community.
In Normandy, the collective has been implementing a similar approach for a decade, at the intersection of contemporary photography, vernacular practices, and participatory creations.

The Franco-British collective exhibition presents a range of varied photographic approaches and writings: portraits constructed with residents, collaborative projects, links between oral narratives and images, photographic trails guided by territories, and sharing of archives. The entire experience is accompanied by bilingual contextual content.
The works question the relationships to territories and landscapes, whether experienced, traversed, or imagined, on both sides of the English Channel. Several series also explore the role of photographic archives as memory supports, revealing individual and collective stories, and as vectors of narratives about the past.

- A bilingual round table offers insights into social and engaged photography in France and the United Kingdom. It examines the evolution of these practices, their institutional recognition, and their contemporary forms through cross perspectives of photographers.
- Workshops on film photography are offered throughout the duration of the exhibition, supervised by French and British artists. They particularly rely on the Obscura Caravan of Tulipe Mobile, a mobile facility transformed into a photographic chamber and laboratory.
- Complementary programming includes a day dedicated to books, with readings, presentations of works, live streaming of filmed page turnings, a temporary bookstore, and portfolio reading sessions led by guest artists.

Exhibition curators: Lydia Echevarria, Karine Chambefort-Kay, Hervé Dez, and Pablo Fernandez.
