In 1050, William Guerlenc, Count of Mortain, was driven from his lands by William, Duke of Normandy, who entrusted the county to his half-brother Robert. Forced into exile, William Guerlenc then left Normandy for Sicily, accompanied by his only squire. Associated with heritage, family roots, and transmission, the rune Othala symbolizes what builds identity as much as what can be lost. The concert draws inspiration from this duality between belonging and uprooting. It questions the place of origins in the face of exile, the memory of legacies, and how a culture transforms while perpetuating itself through movement. Under the direction of Raphaël Sanchez, a recognized composer, arranger, and musical director (Cirque du Soleil, The Lion King), nearly 200 students and teachers from the School of Arts bring this musical journey to life. The program follows the stages of a journey marked by departure, crossing, wandering, discovery, and settling in a new land. Each piece evokes a territory, an era, or a metamorphosis, while the whole forms a vast sound map of Europe. Styles, colors, and musical influences reveal the artistic and cultural exchanges that have shaped the continent over the centuries.
