Round Hill Lismore

24 April 2027

Guided Walk to Norman Motte and Baily

Step back into medieval Ireland with this immersive guided walk created for the Year of the Normans 2027.

The Heritage Town of Lismore enjoys one of the prettiest positions of any Irish Town, over looking the River Blackwater beneath the Knockmealdown Mountains.  It's Lismore's Anglo-Norman castle that inevitably makes the lasting impression.
Join your local guide on a journey of discovery along the majestic River Blackwater, beginning at the iconic Lismore Castle and continuing to the historic Norman motte and bailey. Along the way, hear vivid tales of Norman knights such as Raymond le Gros, including stories of the sacking of Lismore and the lasting impact of the Norman arrival.

Delve deeper into the heritage of the Déise Tribe and uncover the fascinating connections.

The experience concludes at Lismore Heritage Centre, where you can view a detailed replica of a motte and bailey and gain further insight into this defining period of Irish history.  Dress up as a Norman Knight, re-enact iconic images and take pictures for your social media.
Perfect for history enthusiasts and curious explorers alike, this engaging walk brings the Norman story vividly to life in one of Ireland’s most scenic settings.
