Exploration of Normandy through the streets of William the Conqueror

The streets still whisper his name, carried by Stéphane Duboc, offers a renewed perspective on the figure of William the Conqueror, moving away from classical historical approaches in favor of a sensitive and contemporary reading.
It is based on a discreet element of everyday life: the presence of William's name in public space. Streets, avenues, and cul-de-sacs, spread across the entire Norman territory, bear witness to a memory inscribed in the landscape, often becoming invisible through habit.
From these places, a photographic series explores present-day Normandy. The images reveal familiar spaces — homes, shops, schools, old or new neighborhoods — where the imprint of history lingers, albeit diffusely.

The work relies on cyanotype, a photographic process from the 19th century with characteristic blue hues. This choice reinforces the idea of transmission and gives the images a timeless dimension, at the crossroads of memory and the present.
The exhibition is structured as a journey through the territory, highlighting the diversity of Norman landscapes — old centers, suburban areas, villages or contemporary neighborhoods.

Without directly representing the life of William the Conqueror, the project questions how history continues to inhabit everyday places. It thus offers a contemporary reading of Norman memory, through a simple, poetic, and accessible photographic expression.
