The names of the villages in the country of Neubourg, where do they come from?

In the heart of the church of Marbeuf (Eure), the Pays du Neubourg offers a conference led by Estelle Depresle, a tour guide in Normandy. This presentation explores the history of the names of municipalities in the area, revealing the richness of the toponyms shaped by centuries, linguistic evolutions, and human dynamics. Each village or municipal name appears as a living trace of the past, resulting from multiple influences, notably medieval, Norman, and derived from ancient languages.

The analysis highlights the transformations of the language, local specificities, and the mechanisms of constructing territorial identities. Illustrated with examples and historical insights, the conference places place names within a broader understanding of heritage and its evolution. A time for exchange extends the meeting, fostering the enrichment of knowledge around the questions and reflections raised.

The event concludes in a friendly atmosphere with a moment of sharing, allowing for a deepening of discoveries in a pleasant setting.
