In the style of William!

This activity offers an exploration of fashion and daily life during the time of William the Conqueror. Through the character of William and life at the castle, it invites participants to discover the customs, skills, and clothing habits of the Middle Ages, while comparing them to contemporary practices.

How was clothing made in the 11th century? What materials were used? How were the colors that adorned fabrics and costumes obtained? These are just a few of the questions addressed through numerous illustrations, objects, children's books, and mediation tools that make this period more tangible and accessible.

The activity begins with an interactive conference of about thirty minutes dedicated to fashion during the time of William the Conqueror. This is followed by a workshop on plant dyeing lasting about an hour, allowing participants to discover the techniques and natural resources used in the Middle Ages to color textiles.

Designed for both children and adults, this activity combines historical discovery, experimentation, and creativity. Each participant is invited to bring one or two items made from natural fibers, such as a t-shirt, a tote bag, or fabric made of cotton or linen, in order to personalize them during the workshop.
