University study day

09 April 2027

The place of Lillebonne in the Duchy of Normandy at the time of William the Conqueror

The study day aims to situate Lillebonne, its history, and its heritage within a broader medieval framework, both chronological and geographical.

It explores the position of the city in the formation of Normandy, as well as its relationships with its immediate surroundings — notably the abbeys of the Seine valley — and further afield, particularly England after the conquest of 1066.

The study day relies on the medieval remains of Lillebonne as a starting point for a cultural mediation approach open to a wide audience: high school students, residents, cultural mediation professionals, and researchers. It aims to enhance local heritage while placing it within the political, religious, and cultural dynamics of Norman medieval times.

Organized in the form of conferences, the day brings together established researchers and doctoral candidates specializing in the period, combining scientific approaches and knowledge transmission. It asserts Lillebonne as a key site for understanding medieval issues at the regional and cross-Channel levels.
