Festival and Events in Irish Walled Towns 

Each summer, towns across the Irish Walled Towns Network host a vibrant programme of Walled Town Days and medieval festivals, taking place in locations from Athenry to Youghal and from Buttevant to Carlingford. These family-friendly events combine history with entertainment, offering a mix of educational activities, games and cultural experiences.

Founded in 2005, the Irish Walled Towns Network brings together historic walled towns across Ireland and Northern Ireland. Supported by the Heritage Council, the network works in partnership with local authorities and community groups in its 33 member towns.

While some towns have earlier Viking origins, most are founded during the Anglo-Norman period and are closely linked to this chapter of Irish history. Today, they preserve important archaeological remains alongside lasting cultural influences visible in placenames, customs and family names.
