Weaving of footprints

from August 24 2027

to October 29 2027

Weaving of Imprints is a textile, sound, and participatory installation paying tribute to the women who have shaped Norman history, from past to present. Imagined by Cécile Tauvel (Maison Lacmé), the work takes the form of a circular cocoon composed of 1,000 textile strips made from fabric scraps. On each strip is embroidered the name of a woman connected to Normandy — a historical figure, a relative, or a local personality — creating a collective feminine memory. In the center, a monumental weaving by Manon Auguste (Myriade Studio) pays homage to Matilda of Flanders. This contemporary creation resonates with the textile skills inherited from the past. The installation incorporates nine audio narratives dedicated to Norman women, broadcast at the heart of the cocoon and translated into English and Italian. Together, they provide an immersive experience between history and transmission. The project is based on participatory workshops held in several Norman regions, involving residents of all ages in creation through embroidery, sewing, gilding, or writing. Every name, every voice, and every gesture forms a trace, weaving a dialogue between heritage and contemporary creation, between individual stories and collective history. Designed as a traveling work, Weaving of Imprints will circulate in Normandy from March to November 2027, creating a sensitive landscape dedicated to those who, often in the shadows, contribute to writing the history of the region.
