Weaving of impressions

from 03 May 2027

to 30 May 2027

Weaving Impressions is a textile, sound, and participatory installation that pays tribute to the women who have shaped the history of Normandy, from yesterday to today.

Conceived by Cécile Tauvel (Maison Lacmé), the work takes the form of a circular cocoon made up of 1,000 textile strips derived from fabric leftovers. Each strip is embroidered with the name of a woman associated with Normandy — whether a historical figure, a relative, or a local personality — creating a collective feminine memory.
At the center, a monumental weaving by Manon Auguste (Myriade Studio) pays homage to Matilda of Flanders. This contemporary creation resonates with the textile know-how inherited from the past.
The installation incorporates nine sound narratives dedicated to Norman women, broadcast at the heart of the cocoon and translated into English and Italian. The whole offers an immersive experience between history and transmission.

The project is based on participatory workshops conducted in several Norman territories, involving residents of all ages in the creation process through embroidery, sewing, gilding, or writing.
Each name, each voice, and each gesture forms a trace, weaving a dialogue between heritage and contemporary creation, between individual narratives and collective history.

Designed as a touring work, Weaving Impressions will travel through Normandy from March to November 2027, forming a sensitive landscape dedicated to those who contribute, often in the shadows, to writing the history of the region.
