The New Ross Municipal District launches an online competition inviting participants to step into history and portray William Marshal or Isabel de Clare as part of the Year of the Normans.

Through social media, members of local drama groups, historical societies and reenactment communities submit a short pitch explaining why they represent these iconic figures. The initiative actively engages the local performing arts and heritage community, celebrating the region’s rich medieval connections in a creative and visible way.

Following the initial selection, shortlisted candidates attend live auditions where their interpretation and presence are assessed. Selected participants take on the roles of William Marshal and Isabel de Clare and represent the Year of the Normans at events across the New Ross Municipal District throughout the year.

They appear in specially commissioned medieval costumes designed and produced as part of the project, ensuring a striking and authentic visual presence at each event.
