William Marshal Weekend
Medieval Marvels and Living History in New Ross

The William Marshal Weekend is a three-day celebration of the life and legacy of William Marshal, the legendary knight and statesman who founds New Ross in 1207.

The event brings together locals and visitors to explore the town’s rich Norman heritage through a lively and engaging programme. Guided walking tours lead participants through New Ross’s medieval streets, landmarks and origins, while river tours highlight the strategic importance of the River Barrow in the town’s development.

A series of talks and presentations provides deeper insight into the Norman influence in the area, combining history with storytelling in an accessible and immersive way. Throughout the weekend, the programme creates a strong sense of place and celebrates the unique heritage of New Ross.

The William Marshal Weekend is organised by the New Ross History Group, with the support of local performers, guides and cultural venues.
