The 12 riddles of the Red Knight

When the firefighters' calendar becomes a heritage adventure on the scale of a territory. Driven by the visual arts association La Ligne and the Falaise Firefighters' Association, The 12 enigmas of the Red Knight transforms the traditional firefighters' calendar into a grand cultural, heritage, and participatory adventure. Rooted in the history of Falaise and William the Conqueror, the project is based on an original legend: that of a mysterious Red Knight who saved the young duke by means of two relics with extraordinary powers. Scattered through the centuries, these can only be found by solving twelve riddles revealed by an ancient document discovered at the firefighters' station. Originally designed as a true gaming experience, the calendar combines illustrations, storytelling, puzzles, and photographs of the firefighters. Each month invites participants to take on a new challenge, with various gaming mechanisms that explore the history and heritage of the Pays de Falaise. The adventure continues on a dedicated digital platform, accessible via QR codes integrated into the calendar. This platform gathers resources, clues, exchange spaces, and evolving content, while Facebook, Discord, videos, and live meetings keep the community alive throughout the year alongside firefighters, historians, and heritage specialists. Through the complementary use of paper, digital resources, and local meetings, the project re-establishes the central role of the calendar while fostering a collective narrative over several months. At stake are numerous prizes to be won, including a weekend for two at the Harry Potter studios in England, as well as first aid training, tickets to the Medieval Festival of Falaise, and entry to the Falaise castle.
