Round tables

Between the valorization of Norman history and the preservation of indigenous memory in museums.

The two round tables bring together researchers and curators from Norman institutions whose work broadens Norman history to territories beyond Europe in order to construct a larger regional narrative and to show that the Normans played a role in Atlantic globalization.

The first round table (9:30 AM - 11:00 AM) "Norman Heritage Funds: What remains of the Norman expeditions in the Atlantic of the 16th and 17th centuries?" gathers the director of the Beauvoisine Museums and the chief curator of the Château de Dieppe.

Both present the memory of transatlantic exchanges of the 16th and 17th centuries based on the material traces found in the archives.

Moderation: Eric Saunier (Historian at the University of Le Havre-Normandy, HisTeMé)

The second round table (11:15 AM - 12:45 PM) "How to circulate Native American objects and knowledge in museums? Presentation of the Ocara research project" is an opportunity to listen to members and researchers affiliated with museum institutions working on this issue. Drawing from their experience and research, they share their reflections in favor of better integration and greater circulation of Native American objects and knowledge, both ancient and contemporary, in order to engage in a museum transformation and a hybridization of knowledge.

Speakers: Glicéria Tupinamba (artist, exhibition curator, and indigenous researcher, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro/Sorbonne Nouvelle University), Brigitte Thiérion (Researcher and Co-lead of the Ocara project, Sorbonne Nouvelle University), Joëlle Le Marec (Researcher and co-lead of the Ocara project, National Museum of Natural History, Paris)

Both tables can be attended together or separately. A 15-minute interval between each.

The event "The Normans in Atlantic globalization in the 16th and 17th centuries" takes place in two parts: On Thursday, November 18th, in the form of a study day with the same title, and on Friday, March 19th, in the form of two round tables.
