Battle of Hastings at Battle Abbey

from 10 October 2027

to 11 October 2027

Celebrating 960 years since the Battle of Hastings

960 years since the Battle of Hastings took place, the one and only re-enactment returns to Battle Abbey. On the very spot where King Harold and Duke William fought in 1066, over 500 reenactors will recreate the drama and intensity of this legendary conflict.
Ahead of the reenactment, you can discover the story of the famous battle for yourself with interactive displays in the visitor centre.

Then, accompanied by an audio tour, you can see where the Normans advanced against the English, and walk the battlefield, hunting out dramatic wooden figures.

Explore the abbey’s ruins, then climb to the gatehouse rooftop for panoramic views. Inside the gatehouse, an exhibition explores stories from the abbey’s history.
Living History camps will bring Battle’s story to life throughout the event. Look out for activities to get involved in too and then find your spot for the big event.

Practical information
There’s a big café near the gatehouse, next to a fun children’s playground inspired by the site’s history.
