Castles and fortifications of the century of William

from 13 March 2027

to 31 October 2027

Exhibition

Covering the period 1020-1120, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the gradual evolution of medieval fortifications.
It highlights the transition from early defensive structures made of earth and wood, such as enclosures and motte-and-bailey castles, to more durable stone constructions.

Through various media, reconstructions, and detailed explanations, the public will be able to observe the architectural innovations of the time, notably the emergence of square towers and shell-keeps.

The exhibition thus offers an educational and visual immersion into the military techniques and defensive challenges of the Middle Ages, while providing a better understanding of the evolution of fortified landscapes.
