Vikings as seen by Hollywood, a nod from the city of American cinema to the early Normans. Released in 1958, The Vikings by Richard Fleischer showcases all the virtuosity of Cinemascope beloved by this great Hollywood director. Starring Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis, Ernest Borgnine, and Janet Leigh, the film brings together the great figures of adventure cinema of the time. Erik, son of the queen of Northumbria and the Viking chief Ragnar, grows up among slaves. Unaware of their blood connection, he becomes the sworn enemy of Einar, Ragnar's legitimate son. Their rivalry escalates into violent conflict, soon disrupted by the arrival of Morgane, a captive English princess betrothed to Einar but in love with Erik. Passions, vengeance, and breathtaking landscapes compose this epic fresco, enhanced by the music of Norwegian composer Martin Romberg, for an intense rediscovery of this classic adventure film.
