22 May 2027

Playful conference in two voices

A conference honors the figure of Arlette, mother of William the Conqueror, through an illustrated speech that combines historical research and theatrical creation.
The work of medievalist Véronique Gazeau, emeritus professor at the University of Caen-Normandy, unfolds in dialogue with excerpts from the show Arlette, 1010 years, read by Dominique Birien, author and actress from the Mine d’or company.

This meeting offers a sensitive and renewed perspective on Arlette's journey, intersecting scientific analysis and artistic voice, and allows for questioning the role of women in the circle of Norman power in the 11th century.

The conference is part of an exceptional opening of the exhibition “William, Matilda and their close ones (1027-1135)” at the Calvados Archives, accessible from 2 PM to 6 PM.
