Conquest!
at Richmond Castle

A celebration of all things Norman, including historical re enactors living on site, battle demonstrations, talks and even Norman style food!

Towering above the river Swale in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Richmond Castle has been an imposing sight since its foundation in the 1070s. The castle is one of the finest and most complete 11th-century fortresses in the country. With a history that spans centuries, from the Norman Conquest to the First World War, there is much to discover about this fascinating site.
Climb the keep for panoramic views over the castle, the ancient town and Swaledale beyond. Wander the towers, halls and chapels around the vast grassy courtyard and enjoy the views from the tranquil Cockpit Garden.

Stories of the castle and its people are revealed in wide-ranging displays and interactives, and there’s a chance to design your own heraldry.
