Conquest music, heading West, heading East

Shining a light on Europe in the heart of Fécamp by strengthening European cooperation: this is the goal of this unifying musical project, which also highlights the local maritime heritage.

For three days, Fécamp hosts instrumental and vocal ensembles from the three sister cities — Mouscron (Belgium), Vale of Glamorgan (Wales), and Rheinfelden (Germany) — as well as a big band from Moselle, alongside the Lyre Maritime, the project leader.

Titled "Heading West, Heading East," the event evokes both the maritime world and the geographical diversity of the partners.

Each group prepares a program around "conquering music," in reference to William the Conqueror. This theme highlights the universal power of music, capable of bringing people together and conveying a message of peace — an essential value to cultivate and reclaim, especially among younger generations.

The project also incorporates an educational dimension. The association Côtre Pilote Professeur Gosset offers students from La Providence school (two primary classes) an introduction to old sailing ships. At the same time, the Lyre Maritime guides the pupils in learning a collective song on the theme of peace, composed by Amandine Gosset and arranged by a teacher from the Fécamp Conservatory for all participating groups.

The partners will be welcomed from May 14 to 17, 2027. A dress rehearsal will prepare for the final concert together around peace held on May 15 and featuring all the ensembles.
