The Crossing
from 12 August 2027
to 13 August 2027
On the trails of William 1027 - 2027
This project aims to symbolically recreate the journey of the Mora, the iconic ship of William the Conqueror, between Barfleur and Pevensey in England, in order to promote the history and maritime heritage of Normandy.
The crossing is carried out by the DREKNOR, a faithful replica of a Viking ship from Gokstad, labeled "Boat of heritage interest." With stops in Normandy and England, the route allows the public to discover the ship at dock and participate in activities rather than embark for the crossing.
At each stage, the boat becomes a true living educational resource, accessible to everyone. Guided tours, cultural mediations, and exchanges with the crew allow for the exploration of maritime skills from the High Middle Ages, the history of the conquest of England, and the central role of the sea in European movements.
Cultural, heritage-based, and cross-Channel, this project helps to strengthen the feeling of a shared heritage between the two shores of the English Channel.
NOTE: The schedule of stops at the various ports may change depending on the current weather conditions, in order to ensure safe navigation for the boat and the crew.
