The Dream of Arles

27 May 2027

Concert of Anglo-Norman music from the 12th and 13th centuries

The Château Guillaume the Conqueror is hosting an original musical creation inspired by the origins of the one who would become one of the major figures in European history.

Titled The Dream of Arlette, this concert draws its inspiration from a medieval chronicle recounting the meeting between Robert the Magnificent, Duke of Normandy, and Arlette of Falaise, the future parents of Guillaume the Conqueror. Blending legendary narrative with historical evocation, this creation invites the audience to discover the musical universe of Normandy and England in the 12th and 13th centuries.

The performance connects ancient musical heritage with contemporary artistic creation. Four female singers and an organetto bring to life a program that highlights the mutual influences of French and English musical traditions, reflecting the cultural ties that have united both shores of the English Channel since the Middle Ages.

By The De Caeli Ensemble
s, a women's voice group mixing medieval and contemporary repertoire, directed by Laurence Brisset.

De Caelis has been based in Normandy and located in Flers since 1998. It is the recipient of the prestigious Liliane Bettencourt prize for choral singing.
