The earth fortifications around Aubry-le-Panthou.

20 June 2027

The Val Fortin, example of a motte castrale

Presented in the form of an illustrated conference, this talk focuses on the different typologies of earthen fortifications around Aubry-le-Panthou.

The presentation particularly relies on the example of the Val Fortin to show that certain motte castrales have evolving uses over time. It highlights the fact that these structures, initially defensive, can be repurposed for other purposes, such as quarry exploitation.

At the end of the conference, a Q&A session may be offered. Appointments for visits to the mentioned sites can also be considered, thus extending the discovery in the field.

Speaker: Patrice Samson, president of the Historical Society of Vimoutiers in Pays d’Auge.
