Echoes of a Thousand Years

Grand European Choral 2027 Echoes of a Thousand Years brings together in Normandy more than 300 choristers from several European countries, accompanied by a symphonic orchestra and an international artistic team. The project is part of a cultural cooperation dynamic that highlights the historical, heritage, and human connections inherited from the Norman presence in Europe. The initiative is based on the creation of an original work for choirs and orchestra, inspired by a thousand years of European history. This composition involves several authors and composers, including Norwegian Ola Gjeilo, alongside Rémi Delekta, Gilles Treille, Ferdinand Bistocchi, and François-Xavier Borsi. An artistic residency of one week in Ouistreham structures the project. It brings participants together for rehearsals, cultural exchanges, and international meetings, fostering dialogue between cultures and collective choral practice. Partner ensembles from France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Germany, and Flanders are involved in this dynamic. The residency concludes with two major performances: a concert at Rouen Cathedral and a performance at Caen's Zénith. These highlight events showcase a large-scale creation at the crossroads of heritage, contemporary creation, and European cooperation.
