Échos d'un millénaire

from 17 April 2027

to 18 April 2027

Grand European Choral 2027

Echoes of a Thousand Years brings together over 300 choristers from several European countries in Normandy, accompanied by a symphonic orchestra and an international artistic team.

The project is part of a cultural cooperation dynamic that highlights the historical, heritage, and human links inherited from the Norman presence in Europe.

The initiative is based on the creation of an original work for choirs and orchestra, inspired by a thousand years of European history. This composition involves several authors and composers, including Norwegian Ola Gjeilo, alongside Rémi Delekta, Gilles Treille, Ferdinand Bistocchi, and François-Xavier Borsi.

An artistic residency of one week in Ouistreham structures the project. It brings together participants around rehearsals, cultural exchanges, and international meetings, fostering dialogue between cultures and collective choral practice. Partner ensembles from France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Germany, and Flanders are part of this dynamic.

The residency concludes with two major performances: a concert at the Rouen Cathedral and a performance at the Zénith in Caen. These highlights showcase a significant creation at the intersection of heritage, contemporary creation, and European cooperation.

With its scale, artistic ambition, and the diversity of the actors involved, Echoes of a Thousand Years enhances the cultural influence of Normandy on a national and European level, while promoting encounters between artists, territories, and audiences.
