The First Crown

At a time when nationalisms are rising in Europe and redefining borders, Emma of Normandy, The First Crown plunges into 11th century England; a troubled era marked by Viking raids, alliances, and betrayals. The play highlights the political influence of Emma of Normandy, a figure still absent from history textbooks, despite her successive reigns alongside her husbands and sons.

The narrative draws from both history and fiction, blending humor and cruelty while offering an original and captivating reinterpretation of this tumultuous period. From the intrigues of the council of wise men – the Witenagemot – to the royal chambers, it reveals the desires, beliefs, and human weaknesses behind the great historical events.
