Exploring the origins of Selby Abbey

Family drop-in activities at Selby Abbey

On each Wednesday of the school summer holidays, families and young visitors to Selby Abbey will have the chance to get hands-on with its Norman past, with a programme of crafts, trails, displays and storytelling all inspired by the story of the Abbey and its monks. A range of activities will bring the early story of the Abbey to life, from its foundation by the monk Benedict of Auxerre in 1069, to the construction of the Romanesque church under its first abbots. There will also be a chance to see the work taking place as part of the National Lottery Heritage Fund project, Selby Abbey: The Origin Stories, to safeguard this beautiful building for future generations.

Supported by UK National Lottery Players.
