From Feast to Fortress: A Norman Experience

Celebrate the European Year of the Normans with this special one-off tour

The experience begins at Blackfriars with a hands-on cookery workshop, followed by lunch in the award-winning restaurant, featuring recreations of Anglo-Norman dishes. From there, visitors follow a costumed guide through Newcastle to Newcastle Castle, a Norman fortress.

At the Castle, visitors take part in a guided tour and then spend the rest of the afternoon exploring at their own pace, discovering centuries of history along the way.

This project forms part of” Normans in the North”, a collaborative programme involving four cultural institutions in North-East England: Durham Castle, Durham Cathedral, The Auckland Project, Newcastle Castle and Blackfriars Restaurant. Together, they offer three exhibitions and a visitor experience dedicated to the history and legacy of the Normans in the region.
