A Franco-Danish Artistic Collaboration

As part of Millenium 2027 – European Year of the Normans, French choreographer Mathis Nour is developing a new artistic project bringing together French and Danish artists in a dialogue between heritage, contemporary creation, dance, and visual arts.

In partnership with Dansekapellet in Copenhagen, Château Gaillard in Les Andelys, and the Journées Émergence Chorégraphique Festival (ACEAC), the project explores the cultural and historical connections linking Denmark, Normandy, and Europe through a contemporary artistic perspective.

The choice of these two emblematic sites is highly symbolic: Dansekapellet reflects the vitality of contemporary creation in Denmark, while Château Gaillard embodies a key chapter of Norman history and European medieval heritage. Their connection forms an artistic bridge between Scandinavia and Normandy, echoing the historical routes of the Norman world.

The project includes residencies, performances, artistic exchanges, and public encounters, inviting artists to engage with themes such as transmission, movement, memory, identity, and territory. Dance becomes a medium to reinterpret historical narratives and explore the human dimension of shared European heritage.

Presented within the Journées Émergence Chorégraphique Festival, the initiative also supports emerging artists and fosters new forms of international cooperation. It aligns with the goals of Millenium 2027: linking heritage with contemporary creation, strengthening European cultural dialogue, and supporting new generations of artists.

By bringing together institutions, artists, and audiences from France and Denmark, the project contributes to building a shared cultural narrative rooted in history while looking to the future. It demonstrates how artistic creation can renew our understanding of heritage and transform historical connections into living cultural exchanges.
