Guided tour: from the ducal fortress to the Renaissance palace

On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the Château de Gaillon offers a thematic tour dedicated to its medieval history. The visit invites exploration of the site's origins before its transformations during the Renaissance, while addressing current issues of heritage conservation.

The tours trace the evolution of the castle, from a defensive fortress designed to protect the Norman border to a ceremonial residence associated with the archbishops of Rouen. They highlight the architectural changes and the successive uses of the site over the centuries.

A second part presents the contemporary directions of the restoration project. It outlines the trade-offs between preserving the monument and enhancing its value, in order to adapt the site to current expectations for mediation and transmission.

Designed as a space for exchange, the initiative allows for a renewed perspective on the castle and conservation practices, through an accessible approach grounded in today's challenges.
