Hastings Illuminations

Large-scale Projections

Hastings Illuminations presents large-scale projections in prominent, high-footfall public spaces, expanding reach, visibility, and impact.

Stage One takes place at the Station Plaza Campus. High-resolution images of the Bayeux Tapestry are projected at large scale in the spacious entry lobby. This stage launches in Autumn 2026 to coincide with the opening of the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition in London.

The campus sits immediately next to Hastings railway station, so visitors encounter the projections as soon as they arrive in the town. This creates a strong and immediate connection between Hastings and the national programme. From the lobby, visitors move into a dedicated immersive audio-visual room, where they explore the Norman Heritage digital programme in full.

Stage Two launches in 2027 as part of the Year of the Normans celebrations, marking a wider regional and national commemoration of the Norman Conquest. This stage features a standalone video created by the British Museum for the Bayeux Tapestry National Programme. It opens at the Station Plaza Campus and then travels to the Ore Valley Campus, following the same sequence as Stage One.

The Year of the Normans adds further significance to both locations. Hastings stands as the defining site of the Norman Conquest, and presenting the programme here within a national celebration highlights the town’s unique place in this history.

This two-stage approach builds momentum over time. Each stage delivers a distinct experience, encourages return visits, and sustains audience engagement throughout the programme.
